Hardwood flooring offers natural beauty and charm for years of enjoyment. There are dozens of species available, all with unique attributes to fit almost any design. There are a host of colors, grain textures, and profiles available.

The  deciding factors in choosing hardwood flooring are your budget, individual needs, and design style. Pricing can vary between products finished in the factory, unfinished, engineered, plank or parquet. These prices can range from $2 a square foot up to $10 for exotic woods. It is worthwhile to visit a local floor covering retailer and narrow down choices which fit into your budget.  You will need to take color, design, and function into account when choosing a hardwood. For example, installing an exotic hardwood in a high traffic area may mean increased maintenance over time.

Hardwood flooring is an investment and adds value to your home. Take your time when making your selection. If your home has special circumstances such as radiant heat or concrete subflooring, it is imperative that you research the product you are considering before buying or installing.

Engineered Hardwood Flooring

Engineered hardwood flooring is considered a green floor because it uses less wood than traditional solid hardwood floors. This type of wood floor has been designed to be used over radiant heat, areas with height restrictions, and over concrete. Engineered hardwood flooring is constructed in layers like plywood with the top layer beautifully finished with different wood types such as oak or maple. It's dimensionally stable construction allows this type of floor to be installed in areas where solid hardwood isn't recomended. Laundry rooms, bathrooms, and basements are all candidates for engineered hardwood flooring.
