Meet the Team

David Decker formed the Floor Specialists in 1985. After learning the trade from his father John Decker of Complete Carpet Care in Windsor, David graduated from high school a year early to start his own business in the flooring trade.

David’s brothers were also trained in the business, and after working for different flooring companies throughout Broome County, the brothers united under the Floor Specialists name.

Also known as the Decker Brothers, they have made a reputable name for themselves in the Southern Tier and are well known for the quality of their work.

As the business continued to grow, it was necessary to hire additional installers to keep up with the demand for installations, especially in the area of commercial work.

                                                              The Team

David (Dave) Decker - Dave is the oldest of the brothers and is owner of the Floor Specialists. He has 36 years of experience and has mastered carpet, vinyl, vinyl composition tile, hardwood and laminates, and many types of commercial flooring. Quality control, scheduling, and management describe the role he has with the Floor Specialists team.

Christopher (Chris) Decker – Chris is the next in age and is the support behind the Floor Specialists. He has over 30 years of experience and has also mastered carpet, vinyl, vinyl composition tile, hardwood and laminates, as well as commercial installations. Chris is known as the “engineer ” of the Floor Specialists due to his unique ability to improve techniques and find simple solutions to unusual situations that arise.

Stephen (Steve) Decker – Steve is the next in line and has over 25 years experience. Steve is the master of stretch carpet installations as well as commercial installations. He excels in working with property management services. He is known as the “energizer bunny” of the Floor Specialists due to the fact that he never stops working once he hits the workplace.

Scott (Scotty) Decker – Scott is the youngest of the Decker boys. He has over 15 years of experience and has mastered hardwood installations and is known as the “king of cove base” for the Floor Specialists. He holds the record for the most vinyl base installed in a day. Scott works part time with the Floor Specialist team and helps out when he is available. He has a full time position as a carpenter for a local contracting company.

Richard (Mike) Meade – Mike is related to Chris as a “cousin in law”. He has over 5 years of experience and excels in all areas of flooring installations. He owns his own company called “The Floor man”. Mike has the ability to see it once and the rest is experience. He takes his time to get it right instead of hurrying to get it done. Mike is known as the “dedicated one” for the Floor Specialists. When you need him, he is there. He has installed for other companies in Broome County and Northern Pa., but his heart is with the “Decker Brothers” and is considered to be part of the family.

Jordan (Jordy) Lang – Jordan isn’t related to the Decker’s but is considered as one of the family. He learned from his stepfather, William Michalski,  before working with the Floor Specialists. He has over 5 years of experience and has worked side by side with Steve on stretch carpet installations … relentlessly. He is known as the “gluer” for any type floor installation fastened with an adhesive. He is an excellent assistant.

Eric Pompeii – Eric Pompeii is related to the Decker Brothers by way of lifetime acquaintance. He has over 25 years of experience and has excelled in ceramic tile installations, hardwood flooring, vinyl, vct, and most commercial applications. He has worked side by side with Steve since their early teens. Eric is known as “McGuiver” for his ability to come up with some type of gadget to simplify a task and is always tinkering with his hands. He is very detail oriented and his speed is unsurpassed when it comes to getting it done.

Joseph (Joey) Decker, David (Davey) Decker, sons of David Decker, Sebastian (Seb) Decker, Elisha (Eli) Decker, sons of Chris Decker are all beginning their apprenticeship as they are available.

                                                               A Special Thanks

John (Johnny) Decker – The oldest brother of the Decker boys, John, installed floor covering for over 20 years before changing careers. He now works with computers in the field of network security for a prominent school in Va. John is responsible for teaching his brothers the art of rug sculpting. He learned the art of rug sculpting while transitioning careers and passed his knowledge along before leaving the floor covering trade.

 A special thank you goes out to John Decker and Lori Decker founders of Complete Carpet Care, father and mother to eight children, and mentors to their sons.
